Drawing a radius on a map allows you to visualize the surrounding area of a location. This can be useful in determining a number of things. For example, if you want to know how many competitors surround your retail business within a certain distance, you can create a radius. Alternatively, if you want to know how far you can drive in any direction within a set period of time, you can use a radius to do so.
These are just a few of the reasons why you might want to find a radius on a map.
There are several different ways to find the radius on a map. In this article, we will review some of the more popular options.
Options for How to Find the Radius On a Map
Option 1: Maptive
There are a number of mapping programs that allow you to find the radius on a map. For example, Maptive offers a free radius map tool so you can draw a circle with a defined distance radius from any point or location on their Google-powered map.
To start, enter an address and radius distance. You can do this by selecting a location on the map, right-clicking, and then selecting “add radius.” Alternatively, you can enter an address in the “Starting Location” field and enter the distance in miles you want to calculate from the “Proximity Within” field. Then, to add multiple radiuses on the map, simply repeat this procedure.
Option 2: CalcMaps
A free web-based mapping program, CalcMaps is simple to operate. You can find the radius of a circle anywhere on its Google Maps by clicking a point on the map and extending or moving the circle to change the size of the radius. You can also enter an address and select a radius amount in meters or kilometers.
Option 3: Map Developers
Map Developers is another free web-based mapping application. It features a Google Map and two options for finding a radius.
The first option requires entering an address and radius amount in miles, kilometers, feet, or meters. The second option requires that you zoom in on the map until you find the location you desire. Then you need to click the point on the map to center a radius around. In both options, you can adjust the circle’s placement by dragging it, and you can change the radius by dragging the marker on the outside of the circle or by adjusting the radius in the radius field.
Option 4: Travel Time
The Travel Time app is designed to show you how far you can travel in a specific amount of time. You start by entering a location or address and how much time you want to travel. Then you select your mode of transportation. The options are:
- Public transport.
- Driving by car, cycling, walking.
- A combination of driving and taking the train.
This app also allows you to find points of interest within the area you’ve highlighted. Additionally, it will give you navigation information. Creating the radius is free, but for additional features, you need to purchase the app.
Option 5: Create a KML File of a Circle and Import to Google Maps
Google Maps doesn’t currently let you draw a radius, but there is a workaround.
First, find the latitude and longitude of the point where you want the radius to be centered. Then, navigate to the KML Circle Generator and enter this information as well as the desired radius. Next, click “Generate” and save your file.
You now need to open Google Maps and select “Your Places”> “Maps” and create a map. Then, create a new layer and import the file you saved from the KML Circle Generator. Your radius will now be placed on the map.
