Giddy-up and Tidy Up: Your Checklist for General Cleaning at Home

Giddy-up and Tidy Up_ Your Checklist for General Cleaning at Home

Just like any other major project, spring cleaning relies on good planning and organization to be time-efficient while enjoying the cleanup jobs. It’s important to have a checklist of what needs to be done so that you could track your progress and adjust your schedule as needed.

If you’re planning to engage in some sunny day clean up tasks, read on because we’ve prepared a guide to help you execute this home improvement adventure stress-free!

Strategize. Spring cleaning is essentially a collection of multiple cleanup sessions. It’s up to you if you want to finish everything in one day or if you want to designate only a number of activities over a specified period of time. Choose the option that would let you maximize your energy while giving you ample time to rest.

Failing to plan is planning to fail. Get your clipboard out and list down all the tasks you want to accomplish in your entire spring cleaning sesh. Break the house down into sections; you could use the different rooms in your house as your divisions. Under each division, list the stuff you want to clean up, and then set a time or day when you’re going to do it. This way, you can keep track of your progress while being organized. This also avoids skipping some tasks (which you may forget in the process of cleaning if you don’t keep a list).

Get your weapons out! Before starting any cleaning job, make sure that all the materials you’ll be needing are prepped and functional. This will save you the time it’d take to look for a specific item (and mind you, searching for stuff really ruins the momentum and the energetic mood).

All things kitchen. Being the heart of the home, the kitchen should be given special attention since it’s where meals are cooked. Cleanliness of the area is a must especially now that there’s a pandemic. For the refrigerator, throw out spoiled food, reorganize items, and wipe drips and stains. It’s also recommended that you mop the floor under the ref and, if you’re brave, the area behind it.

Wipe the cabinets and glass panels, and use cleansers to shine the sink, faucet, and countertops. Kitchen walls tend to be oily because of the cooking so make sure to wipe away food or drink splashes.

Pillow talk. The bedroom is where everyone sleeps, so make sure to keep its environment clean to get the best rest at night. Start by changing the sheets and airing out the pillows. Use a steamer for the mattress and a vacuum cleaner for the floor. Wipe your blinds with a dry cloth to remove dust. Remember to clean your fan blades and remove hair strands that have gotten caught in the motor.

For the windows, you can use a cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth to remove stubborn water stains or contact Cincinnati Window Cleaning. You might have to do several repetitions before you can get your windows to shine, but remember to be gentle and take your time to get the best results.

Bath and beyond. This is the part of your home that needs a little more love, so remember to be extra patient when doing this part. Let your tiles, tubs, and toilets soak in liquid cleanser for some time before you start brushing. You could tend to other tasks while letting the solution sit.

Toss your shower curtains in the washing machine and add detergent. Let it spin on a low-speed setting. Wipe your bathroom mirror with a soft cloth while spraying some cleaning solution on the mirror.

Lounge and living. No one knows just how much chips and crumbs have accumulated in your sofa so vacuum it. Invest the time to remove stains on the sofa, too. For this task, baking soda and water are your best friends! But before applying any cleaning solution, check your sofa’s tags to know which type of solution is recommended for use.

Cleaners need cleaning, too! Now’s the time for your washing machine and dishwasher to get a taste of their own medicine. With each laundry and dishwashing session, these appliances are accumulating soap and scum which look more and more disgusting as time goes by. You can use washing machine cleaners or cleaning vinegar plus detergent. Just note that before cleaning, read up on suitable cleaning agents for these appliances to avoid damaging them.

The less attention they get, the more they actually need. Scrub the light switches and door knobs! These areas are high-touch surfaces which means that they’re handled many times a day. You can use a toothbrush to scrub the grime off of the light switches, but be careful with the electronics when using liquid cleansers. Remember, there’s no shame in asking for professional help, like this company that does mold remediation in Tampa.
