Advice From One Mom to Another

Start Interacting More with Other Moms

Reaching out to fellow mothers can not only earn you more friends, but help your children make their own friends, too! It’s important for your kids to feel socially integrated and have plenty of people to rely on. So why not schedule a few playdates? They’re fun for everyone!

Surrounding yourself with fellow mothers can be invaluable, helping you build a strong network that can blossom into something bigger—a book club, maybe, or girls’ nights away from the hubbies! And who knows: your new friends might even have their own “mom advice” to share!

Read to Keep Your Mind Sharp

Speaking of book clubs, my girlfriends and I have just started one! They’ve all encouraged me to pick up more books, and I’ve noticed that I not only feel sharper than before, but so much more empathetic.

So many people, especially nowadays, think that reading is boring, but that’s simply not true, especially when there are so many available genres! Some prefer to read fiction and imagine themselves as another person, whereas others, like me, enjoy non-fiction books, like Jen Sincero’s “You Are a Badass” (a personal favorite).

Reading is one of the best ways to occupy your mind, and the best part is that it simultaneously helps you relax!

Take Baths to Soak Out the Tension

Contrary to popular belief, baths are wonderful for you. In some ways, they’re even better for you than showers!

My favorite part of the day is coming home after work and soaking in the tub for half an hour. Usually, I add bath salts and essential oils and play calming music, though this depends on my mood; sometimes, I just want to listen to rain or ocean sounds.

Amazingly, baths have been shown to have detoxifying effects, and they can even make your skin smoother!

Head to the Spa More Often

Going to the spa is another excellent way to relax—a med spa, specifically.

While med spas and regular spas are similar, med spas are usually run by a medical professional, like a doctor, which allows them to provide advanced skincare technologies like lasers and deep peels.

I’m under a lot of stress, so getting a few hours to myself at the nearest med spa has had a visibly positive effect on me!

Learn to Say “No”

One of the most unexpectedly difficult things about being a mom is saying no when you feel obligated to say yes.

There will always be moments when you feel overwhelmed by your responsibilities; sometimes, our children simply ask too much of us, and we feel that the only way to make them happy is to give in to their needs.

But I’m here to tell you that it’s okay to be firmer. It may hurt a bit at first—denying your children of what they want is never pleasant—but it’s an important lesson that they need to learn. Nobody can have everything, and the earlier they learn this, the better!

Channel Your Creativity into New, Exciting Recipes

Most women I know like to cook, and I’m no exception. It’s one of the most tried-and-true methods of emotional release, which is why I love to try out new recipes and see my family smile when they take that first bite!

If you pride yourself on your creativity, you should try this out, too! Take some time to think of a delicious meal and do your best to prepare it. I’m sure you’ll be surprised with what you come up with, and I know your family will also be thrilled!

Of course, though, it should never feel like a chore to cook, and there are a number of meal services, like HelloFresh, that can help streamline the process by offering countless ingredients for your purchase. Think of all the time—and effort—you can save!
